Mommy's little jet setter

Sophia and I flew home for my cousin's wedding yesterday and she was amazing in the airports and flights. She slept through the takeoff of our first flight and almost completely through the second flight. And in the airport for some of our layover. What a perfect little jet setter!
She had a great time talking with and smiling at everyone who said hi to her (which was a lot of people!) and except for the coming down part of our first flight, she didn't cry once!
And the hello kitty outfit I got for her was perfect! Comfy and cute!

Gigi was waiting for us at the airport and she was excited to see us!

And then we went home and they had some surprises waiting for us!
A bit girl chair so Sophia can sit at the table!

And some fun toys borrowed from daddy's younger cousin Madeline.

Stephen and I also went to an Indian restaurant to celebrate our 2nd anniversary on Tuesday and she had a great time with us. The people who worked there thought she was the cutest thing and kept coming over to check up on us and say hi. She was given a few pieces of cheese and some rice pudding and she was absolutely loving it!

She enjoyed playing with the straw I gave her too!

Sunday Family Time

Stephen and I took Violet and Sophia for a nice family walk today and, of course, we needed our sunglasses! It was so nice to have some family time and Violet really needed to get out!

Sitting pretty

Sophia has just recently become able to sit up by herself and she really enjoys it! She has been wanting to be able to for a long time. And while she's not 100% stable yet, she's getting pretty good!

I have to brag for a minute here

I have loved thrift stores for a long time but today I think I may love them more than ever. I generally avoid buying any of Sophia's clothes in retail stores, with the exception of clearance items, because I just can't justify buying expensive things she'll grow out if in 3 months. That being said, however, I will admit I have expensive taste for myself and her. I also love dressing her up every day. So in order to feed this habit in a sustainable and affordable way, I frequent yard sales and thrift stores.
After dropping her off at day care today I decided to pop buy the thrift store in fort hood, and to my delight there were quite a few treasures to be found!
From left to right- Janie and jack onesie, toys r us black leggings, baby gap striped leggings, baby gap navy leggings, and two pairs of baby gap lounge pants.
This bunch originally probably cost at least $60 or $70 and I got it for just under $8. I was so pleased that I decided to try my luck at one more thrift store off post.
I got even more lucky here. I got a pair of children's place leggings, a lambs wool Janie and jack sweater with beautiful embroidery and the tags still on it, and a Carter's set with a grey corduroy dress and a polka dot onesie for just under $9. That sweater along cost $50 according to the tag!!

I just had to share my good luck today because I am so excited! Janie and jack make absolutely beautiful baby clothing, but they are rather pricy- so to be able to find two well priced pieces in one day is so exciting! And I LOVE baby gap for Sophia because the clothing is well made and runs just a big big (which my little chunky darling appreciates!) and it is just so cute! If you can catch a good sale at gap I consider their clothing affordable, but having such a great pick was fabulous.
I know mostly moms and grandmas read my blog so I hope you all can understand my excitement!

6 Months Old and Our First Kid Birthday Party!

Our little beauty is 6 months old today! I look back at pictures of her when she was a newborn and I can't believe how much she has grown! She is a healthy, beautiful, amazing little person with so much personality. It seems like she is like a snowball rolling down a hill- all her accomplishments started smaller and slower and now it seems like she is able to do something new every day! Stephen sent me a picture of her holding her own bottle with no help at work yesterday, and she has recently become able to sit up all by herself! Now, I wouldn't let her sit by herself yet because she gets distracted and falls over very easily, but just to look down and realize that she is not leaning on you is astounding. She can roll over without any trouble, she is eating and enjoying food, and she has her own little sense of humor that cracks me up every time. She is really interested in crawling and I am sure that she will be going everywhere and getting into everything before Christmas (and maybe even before Thanksgiving).
My friend Amanda has a little girl named Lindsay and she is turning 1 this week! We went to her birthday party and it was a lot of fun. Sophia had a fancy party outfit on but I didn't get a chance to take a picture of it, but rest assured it included a tutu and lots of polka dots.

5 Months Old!

Our little Sophia is 5 Months old!

Some facts about little miss Sophia:

She wears size 6-9 months clothes right now!
She likes carrots and is coming around to sweet potatoes.
She likes the pool (partially because her swimsuit is so cute!)
She loves showing off her belly (even if she has to hold her dress up to show you!)
Her favorite toy is Eeyore- his ears make crinkle sounds and he rings when you shake him.
She wishes she could sit up more than anything (even than rolling over!)

Girls Weekend

Daddy is out in the field training this week, and he had some homework to get done for his classes before he left, so I had a girls weekend with my babies! Sophia, Violet and I went to the dog park on Saturday morning and Violet was so happy about it! Her tail was wagging wagging wagging! Sophia was very interested in looking at all the other doggies too. I had her in her little papoose carrier, and since she can hold her hear up steadily, she can be turned facing outwards. There was lots to look at! After we had sufficiently tired Violet out, we came home and ate lunch and took a nap. In the afternoon, Sophia and I went to one of the pools on post. She seems to like it! And she looks SO cute in her little bathing suit. I even found a hat in a similar color with matching polka dots. Perfect!

On Sunday, Sophia and I took a little shopping adventure. We went down to the outlets where I work and visited all our friends. Then we went to IKEA and walked around there. They are so family friendly! They have special family bathrooms with kid sized sinks and toilets and free diapers and chairs that one could nurse in. They are wonderful!
At IKEA

We also had a matching day. Well, maybe we were just coordinating, but I love doing it. She was wearing a grey and white patterned romper and i was wearing a grey and white patterned dress. Someday she will get ideas of her own and not want to match with mommy anymore, but until then, I will take every opportunity!

We got her a little bear ears hoodie too while we were out. It is from a store called "sprockets" that I had never heard of before, but they advertised how they made quality kids clothes at affordable prices. The hoodie does seem well made, and they were having a big sale so it was only $5. Its too big for her right now, but it will be the right size once winter comes along!
